PSV beat Galatasaray with Zahavi hatrick

In UEFA Champions League second qualifying round leg 1 of 2 PSV beat Galatasaray. With a 5-1 victory over Galatasaray, PSV Eindhoven enhanced their chance for the next round of Champions League qualifiers, thanks to a hat-trick from Zahavi. Joel Drommel, Andre Ramalho, and Phillip Mwene made their PSV debuts, while Marco van Ginkel captained the side in midfield. Cody Gakpo returned to practice only this week but sat on the bench.

in the second minute, giving PSV an early lead Eran Zahavi stole the ball from Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. Yorbe Vertessen’s free-kick from a great position should have made it 2-0 almost immediately. But in the 35th minute the team took the team led the scoreboard to 2-0 and the stadium’s 23,500 fans were reveling in their team’s dominance. Noni Madueke burst into the box and crossed for Zahavi to score close range.

Galatasaray barely threatened, but Emre Kilinc’s header gave them a goal before the break. Within six minutes of the second half, Zahavi brilliantly played through Mario Gotze, who fired past Muslera to make it 3-1. Then Davy Propper and Gakpo were introduced by Schmidt as PSV attempted to take control of the game.

In the 84th minute, Zahavi completed his hat-trick after taking the ball around Muslera, before Gotze scored just before the end. The midfielder was fortunate in that the ball struck his shoulder before beating Muslera, who had a terrible night in the Galatasaray goal. PSV will take a big lead to Galatasaray next week as they look to advance to the next round.
