Lionel Messi has left Barcelona after the Spanish club failed to sign the striker on a new contract. Messi was heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City when his previous contract was close to an end. Now as Leo is free from Barcelona, PSG is considered favorites to sign Lionel Messi.
Parisians are ready to offer the 34-year-old a massive contract worth €40 million (£34 million) per year after tax in football transfer as the Argentine nears a sensational move to Parc des Princes.
We have learned Manchester City is not considering an option to buy the Argentine star striker Lionel Messi. The club has announced the signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a fee of 100 million pounds and is eager to get Harry Kane from Tottenham. Mundo Deportivo claims the Manchester club simply cannot afford Messi’s wages.
After the Blaugrana club confirmed on Thursday the exit of their superstar, Messi’s desire to remain at Barcelona was dashed. Barca made it known that they were unable to find a way to make a contract extension work within La Liga’s financial constraints.
According to reports PSG has been chasing his signature for the past 24 hours. Chelsea has also been mentioned as potential suitors, but in the race for his signature PSG is far ahead, and it’s easy to see why when you look at the numbers they’re proposing.
In order to persuade Messi to join them, PSG is willing to pay Messi a ludicrous £34 million per season (after tax), according to L’Equipe. In comparison, Neymar earns a slightly less absurd £30 million per year.
These figures are part of a three-year contract, the last of which Messi is expected to opt-out of. The primary goal of the French club is to convince Messi to at least agree on two years contract after which he will be free to pursue other opportunities.
The Argentine has expressed a desire to end his career in Major League Soccer or in his homeland, and PSG is willing to make that happen. Mohamed Bouhafsi later revealed that Messi intends to join PSG and that additional talks with his father will take place over the weekend to finalize the deal.
