Tottenham Hotspur claimed a 2-1 victory over Leeds United in front of the home crowd and Antonio Conte saw his side pick up all three points after an impressive second-half turnaround. This was the first Premier League game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the newly appointed Spurs boss Conte but it was Leeds who looked more at home at an early stage of the game.
Marcelo Bielsa was no doubt content with his side’s performance as the away side well-deserved were the one to break the deadlcok when Daniel James darted in at the back post to score his first Leeds goal. However, right after the restart, the hosts stamped their authority on the game with Harry Kane’s effort going wide off the post before Son’s cross-shot deflected onto the crossbar minutes later as the contest sprung into life.
It was Lucas Moura who played a pass into the path of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg for him to restore the parity almost on the hour mark putting his shot into the back of the net. ‘Spurs’ looked revitalised and, in stark contrast to the first half, another goal looked inevitable. Lucas continued to cause Leeds issues and made another telling contribution when he was brought down on the edge of the area.
Before Sergio Reguilon grabbed his first Tottenham goal Dier’s resulting free-kick was deflected onto Illan Meslier’s post, turning the tables completely. The new era has now begun for Tottenham with Antonio Conte at the helm gaining their first victory in 4 games. With 19 points after 12 fixtures, the London side is yet to find their spot in the Premier League top-four. Check out football highlights to watch Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 victory over Leeds United.
