Premier League: Chelsea victory over Leicester City

In the Premier League football match held at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Chelsea romped to a 3-0 victory over Leicester City. Ben Chilwell’s strike thundered off the bar, much to the pleasure of his old supporters, and Thomas Tuchel’s side could have taken an early lead.

In the 14th minute after the team had dominated possession, Antonio Rudiger leaped highest to head home from Chilwell’s corner. Leicester had the ball in the net against the run of play through Ademola Lookman, but his 25th-minute shot was rightfully ruled out for offside. Just a few minutes later Chelsea responded with a goal of their own, as N’Golo Kante scored a stunning long-range strike to give Thomas Tuchel’s team a 2-0 lead that could not have been more comfortable in the first half.

A change of system made Leicester more competitive, early in the second half, but Chelsea still had the next big chance. Chilwell pounced on a Callum Hudson-Odoi pull-back, and his low shot forced a fine stop from Kasper Schmeichel.

Just after the hour mark, Leicester’s first serious chance came when Daniel Amartey’s long-range effort required a diving stop from Edouard Mendy. Chelsea’s third goal came from Christian Pulisic, who combined with a fellow substitute to score with 20 minutes remaining after squandering a chance created by Hakim Ziyech.

Just seconds later, Hudson-Odoi had the ball in the net, but VAR correctly ruled it out for offside. Ten minutes later, Pulisic’s second goal was disallowed for offside and Reece James’ own shot was also disallowed for the same reason, forcing Chelsea to settle for three goals.
