Premier League: Arsenal win over Leeds

Arsenal secured a 4-1 win over injury-hit Leeds United in the English Premier League (EPL) football tournament at the Elland Road. This was the only match to be held on Saturday due to the postponement of the match due to coronavirus infection. Before the match, Leeds had only nine senior players due to injuries, while Jack Harrison was also injured before halftime. In the previous football match, they suffered a 0-7 loss to Manchester City.

Gabriel Martinelli (16th and 28th) scored two goals for Arsenal while Bukayo Saka (42nd) and Emile Smith Rowe (84th) scored one goal each. The only goal for Leeds was Raphinha’s penalty in the 75th minute.

After the match, Arteta heaped praise on Martinelli, who has now scored four goals in his last six league games. Arteta told reporters, “We see the player every day and we know where the player has to be to be able to play at the top level all season. We are here to develop him as a player and he has had to wait for his moment.”

He added, “I am really happy with him and how he is performing. He has come a long, long, way. His energy and his passion do not get much better. When he has the chances he puts them away. He is heading in the right direction.”

During this match, a spectator made racist remarks towards Arsenal players. Arteta confirmed after the match that his men sitting on the bench were racially abused by a Leeds supporter and he has filed a complaint to the authorities. The Gunners manager said, “I can confirm it and it was reported to the stadium manager. The authorities will investigate that. One of the players on the bench heard those comments. I don’t know exactly who it was directed at.”
