Pochettino: Pre-season work will boost Paris Saint-Germain to success

Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino laying the groundwork to avoid a repeat of the 2020-21 disappointing season. According to him, pre-season work will set PSG up for success in order to correct the mistakes of their unsuccessful Ligue 1 defense. Last term PSG lost the Ligue 1 title to Lille and in the Champions League, the Parisians were knocked down in the semi-finals stage.

In this summer transfer window, PSG has signed skilled players like Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid, Achraf Hakimi from Inter, and Euro 2020 shoot-out hero Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan. This strong transfer has boosted the hopes of French giants for the upcoming season.

However, Pochettino is adamant that the pre-season period is critical for Paris Saint-Germain if they are to reclaim the Ligue 1 title and a place in the Champions League. “Other players will join us later, maybe they won’t feature in the first competitive matches of the season so that they too can prepare in the best way possible”, Pochettino told the club’s media.

“It’s important so that, during the season, they feel fresh and strong and that what happened last season never happens again. There are a lot of young players who will have the opportunity to show themselves in these first games and prove to us they can fight for a place in the team during the season,” Pochettino said.

“I think the most important thing is to establish the guidelines and lay the foundations for the future. I think that’s what we are doing at the beginning of the pre-season, and it will surely contribute to all those things that we need to do to prepare well and have the ingredients we need in the decisive moments. So that we can be much closer to achieving our goals and to win the things we want to win,” the PSG coach added.
