Bundesliga resumed football season yesterday.
While celebrating goals, teams will not be fined for violating social distance guidelines, stated The German Football League (DFL).
It says players are told to maintain their distance, but it is not purely followed guidance.
Hertha Berlin defender Dedryck Boyata kissed teammate Marko Grujic on the cheek to celebrate a goal from Hoffenheim’s Kevin Akpoguma, on the opening, Saturday of the Bundesliga ’s return.
“It was something that was merely recommended in the guidance, but on the issue of goal celebrations sanctions are not required,” said the spokesperson.
Hertha coach Bruno Labbadia added: “I hope people outside understand this. Holding back is only a recommendation.”
“We’ve been tested six times negative, most recently yesterday. Emotions are part of that as well. Then there’s no sense in playing the game.”
