Manchester City registers a big win against Leeds

Manchester City scored seven goals without a top striker and cemented their place at the top of the English Premier League (EPL) football competition with their seventh consecutive win over Leeds United 7–0 (match result). Kevin De Bruyne scored two goals while Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Riyadh Mahrez, John Stones, and Nathan Ake scored a goal each to give the defending champions a solid step towards their title defense.

The win took City to 41 points from 17 matches and four points ahead of second-placed Liverpool (37 from 16 matches). Chelsea are in third place with 36 points. City has also reduced the goal difference by scoring a single goal. Liverpool’s goal difference is 33 and City’s is 31.

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has commented on winning big in this season: “We lost five points last season playing Leeds. We tried to prepare well and maybe the players felt it was a more serious team than people think about. Our goals conceded is amazing. It proves you don’t have to defend so deep, but this club is creative and the club buys players to be creative. We didn’t score as many goals this season but today was a good run to be close to Liverpool and Chelsea.”

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa said: “There is nothing positive to take away from our performance. I can’t find anything that can be valued. As is natural in these cases, it is not the individuals that fail but the organization.”
