Kushal Das on I-League: New Teams Add a New Dimension

All India Football Federation general secretary Kushal Das believes new teams add a new dimension to the I-League. The next edition of the Indian football tournament will feature 13 teams from 11 cities including the Bhubaneswar-based Indian Arrows.

Kushal Das believes that with some new teams coming in he looking forward to another great I-League football season. He said, “I would have preferred to do league under normal circumstances. But, as things stand, it is very important that we continue to operate in a safe biological bubble to protect the players and everyone involved in this effort.”

The I-League 2021-22 is set to begin on December 26 at three venues, the Mohun Bagan Ground in Kolkata, the picturesque Kalyani Stadium, and the Naihati Stadium. Sunando Dhar, CEO of I-League & Development said that the joining of Sreenidi Deccan FC, Rajasthan United FC and Kenkre FC adds a new dimension to the next edition.

Dhar said, “I am very excited about the new season and I hope it goes on like last time. Adding new teams from Rajasthan, Mumbai and Deccan region will give more opportunities to players from different regions,” he added.

Rajasthan United created history by winning the I-League Qualifier, becoming the first team from their state to play at this level. Kenkre FC’s participation means Mumbai’s return to the first league after a span of 4 years.

Sunando Dhar added, “We did well to spread the league across the country after the first years of several teams from Kolkata, Goa, and Mumbai. But it is important to get teams from metropolitan cities in terms of business impacts.”
