Jose Enrique suggests Liverpool to sign Mohamed Salah on a new deal and should give “everything he wants”. This season, Mohamed Salah had a fantastic start as he has scored six Premier League goals so far, including a stunning solo goal against Manchester City on Sunday. The 29-year-old’s efforts which included an assist for Sadio Mane’s opener were not enough to lift Liverpool to victory, with champions City battling back twice in a tense 2-2 draw.
With Ibrahima Konate entering from RB Leipzig as Red’s only significant signing, Liverpool was very quiet in the recent transfer window, while Georginio Wijnaldum moved Paris Saint-Germain on a free football transfer. The Reds did, however, agree on new contracts with Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, and Jordan Henderson, securing the futures of some of Jurgen Klopp’s important players.
On the other hand, Salah was not one of them. Egypt forward’s current deal will be terminated in less than two years and he is not interested to leave the club. Jose Enrique, who played for Liverpool from 2011 to 2016, believes the club must act quickly to correct the situation.
He told Stats Perform football news: “Him scoring [against City] doesn’t surprise me. Obviously, when you watch it, you’re like ‘wow what a goal’, but he’s made a few of them already at this level, very good goals.
“He doesn’t surprise me anymore. I don’t know what he’s asking for from Liverpool to renew his contract, but I say give him whatever he wants, because in my opinion at the moment, take [Lionel] Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo because of the history they have and everything like that, but you tell me one player at the moment in the world of football that I would take if I was manager and I would say, Salah.”
“Definitely I would say Salah, he’s unbelievable. People forget that he’s not actually a forward, he’s a winger really. He plays a little bit as a forward as well but he’s a winger actually but making these kinds of numbers. Today, another assist and a goal. What am I going to say about him? Liverpool signs a new contract, tying him down and let’s get it over with, definitely.”
