Javier Tebas accuse Gianni Infantino for Super League failure

La Liga president Javier Tebas has accused FIFA President Gianni Infantino as a person behind the unsuccessful European Super League project. Twelve of Europe’s most important football clubs – Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur – announced separatist ESL. However, all of them saw heavy negative feedback from fans of the club and after intense pressure from supporters, UEFA, and related leagues and associations, the project fell apart.

All six Premier League clubs, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and AC Milan have apologized to their fans and abandoned the project, and vowed never to be part of it. However, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus have refused to leave the ESL behind and are taking further action from UEFA. The Italian Football Association even stated that Juventus will be expelled from Serie A if it does not officially withdraw from the project.

Despite La Liga’s two clubs still malfunctioning, Tebas said punishing the clubs was not in the league’s hands. Tebas said on Tuesday, “The federations belong to UEFA, not the league. Almost all clubs admitted that they had made a mistake. The worst approval was the reaction from fans. They have admitted their mistake and we need to consider it. This project failed, but it is not dead. Without English clubs, they would not be able to complete it.”

Javier Tebas claims to have access to secret ESL documents where Gianni Infantino is named “W01”. He said, “He is the least in the Super League and I have already told him in person. I have said it before and I will say it again, behind all these things is the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino.”

However, Infantino, who was head of UEFA from 2009 to 2016, announced his and FIFA’s disagreement with ESL shortly after the project was announced.

Tebas made it clear that he has no animosity for Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who was the president of the European Super League, his most vocal advocate. Even after the project collapsed, Perez repeatedly stated that ESL is critical to the sport’s survival.

“It’s different opinions about the idea of football,” Tebas said of Perez. “I heard the president of Real Madrid say that football would be ruined in three years, and that’s simply not true. There is nothing personal against Florentino, only that he submits that there is another type of football industry that threatens a present and I cannot allow that to happen.”
