Manchester United: Patrice Evra reveals he was sexually abused as a teenager

Manchester United: Patrice Evra

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra recently revealed that he was sexually abused as a teenager. Speaking after the release of his book, Evra said that the incident took place when he was 13 and is disclosing it for the first time at the age of 40. He said that he only revealed it to his family before the release of the book. His mother was devastated after hearing about the incident. He grew up in France and joined Nice in 2000. He spent four years in Monaco thereafter before signing for Manchester United in 2004. Evra went on to win five Premier League titles, three league cups, and one Champions League.

“It was a tough moment for me,” former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra said. “I have still to tell a few of my brothers and sisters and close friends. I don’t want people to feel pity. It’s a difficult situation. A mother does not expect to hear this from their own child. It was a big shock for her. A lot of anger. She said she was sorry. She said ‘you must not put it in your book, it’s private Patrice’, but that’s when I say ‘mum, it’s not about me, it’s about other kids’, then she says OK, she understands.”

“I know the book will mean people will change their view of me, but I am more than happy to talk with people. I am a better version of myself. My friends will say ‘oh the world will react, think of the pressure’, but the biggest pressure is to say it to my mum. Even thinking about it now, it’s hard.” he added.
