India will host the Under-18 and Under-19 Women’s Championships of the South Asia Football Federation (SAFF) next year. The SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship will be held from March 3 to March 14, while the SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship will be held from July 25 to August 3.
All India Football Federation (AIFF) gave this information on Wednesday. Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and hosts India will take part in the SAFF Under-18 Women’s Championship. The five teams will take on each other in a round-robin format, after which the top two teams will advance to the final. Six teams will participate in the SAFF Under-19 football competition. An Indian football team is currently playing in the Women’s SAFF U-19 Championships in Dhaka.
On October 14, 2021, the SAFF members board meeting took place in Male, Maldives. Following the meeting, Bangladesh were announced to be the hosts of the tournament. However, now India is announced to host the SAFF Women’s Championships football tournament in March and in August.
Apart from India, teams from Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka will participate in the tournament. Six teams will be divided into two groups of three teams each. The group stage will be in a round-robin format with each team playing each other once. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
