Joao Felix has to raise his game to meet the LaLiga Santander standard, believes former Atletico Madrid midfielder Costinha.
Benfica had lofty expectations last summer with a 20-year-old’s move of €127 million to Atletico Madrid but the Portuguese international has not lived up to them.
“[The problem] is related to the level of each league,” Costinha told Eleven Sports.
“The Spanish league is a lot more competitive than the Portuguese one.”
“It’s a competition with a high rhythm, where everyone plays to win.”
“At Benfica, he had unlimited chances to score, and in Spain, he’s facing a much more balanced reality.”
“He’ll also have to adapt to what [Diego] Simeone asks of him, but I think that, sooner or later, he’ll adapt to those dynamics and they will be an asset.”
