Euro 2020 day 2 Wales vs Switzerland prediction

On Saturday, Wales will start their Euro 2020 campaign fighting against Switzerland in Baku. This will be five years after their magical journey to the European Championship semi-finals. Although Group A is undoubtedly the most competitive of the bunch, both teams hope to advance to the pan-European competition’s first knockout phase. Here is a football prediction from Day 2 of Euro 2020 of the match between Wales and Switzerland.

Team news

Wales lineup: Ward; Mepham, Rodon, Davies; Roberts, Allen, Ampadu, Williams; Bale, Wilson, James

Wales may favor the former today, however, they alternated between a back three and a back four in each warm-up game.

On either side Wales have the captain Gareth Bale and Dan James, also Harry Wilson has recently been utilized as a central striker for Wales.

while Danny Ward and Wayne Hennessey are battling it out in goal for Wales, Rhys Norrington-Davies may get the nod ahead of Neco Williams at left wing-back.

Ethan Ampadu of Chelsea has been a regular for Wales, frequently more than for his club, but he may not be selected here. Alongside Aaron Ramsey in central midfield, Joe Morrell or Joe Allen are more likely to start.

Switzerland lineup: Sommer; Elvedi, Akanji, Schar; Mbabu, Xhaka, Freuler, Rodriguez; Shaqiri; Gavranovic, Seferovic

Denis Zakaria and Remo Freuler are vying for a spot in midfield alongside Granit Xhaka because Switzerland prefers to play with two strikers.

To play in the starting position Breel Embolo, Admir Mehmedi, and Mario Gavranovic are vying. In one of their warm-up games, the latter scored a hat-trick against Liechtenstein.

For Saturday’s match, Switzerland has the option of putting Ricardo Rodriguez at left wing-back or as a third center-back.

Prediction

Wales had set a standard for themselves when they reached the semi-finals of the European Championships for the first time in 2016. To maintain their success they will have to work incredibly hard this year. There are chances that they may fail to move out of a tough group that includes Italy, Turkey, and Saturday’s opponents Switzerland.

Switzerland has only ever progressed past the group stage in one of its four European Championships in Euro 2016. Having drawn twice with Spain and once with Germany, they are on a six-game winning streak prior to Saturday’s match.

Wales has a strong record of keeping clean sheets, having kept three of their last four opponents scoreless. Meanwhile, Switzerland can defeat any team, although Wales is a difficult team to beat in competitive matches. Group A could be dominated by ties, with Turkey in a position similar to Wales and Switzerland, and we can see this match in Baku ending all square.

Our Prediction: Wales 1-1 Switzerland
