Elliott overwhelmed with love and support after horrific injury

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott suffered a horrific injury following a challenge from Leeds defender Pascal Struijk, who was ruled out after a VAR review. Elliott said he is overwhelmed with the “love and support” he has received since amputating his ankle in Sunday’s 3-0 match score win over Leeds.

The 18-year-old received lengthy treatment at the Elland Road ground before getting stretched, which left players on both teams upset. Elliott was later discharged from Leeds Hospital, although the injury has not yet been fully confirmed, and he will undergo surgery.

On Monday Elliott took to his Instagram and wrote: “I’m of course absolutely devastated with what happened yesterday at Leeds, but have been totally overwhelmed by the love and support shown to me by the entire football world following the injury. Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out or sent messages to me and my family, it means so much to us”.

“Also a massive thanks to everyone inside Elland Road for the reception you gave me immediately after it happened,” he added a heart emoticon. “I am now fully focused on my recovery and will give everything in my rehabilitation to be back out there as soon as I can. I know I have an incredible support network behind me at Liverpool and together we will get through this. To all of the Liverpool fans, your support means the world to me,” he continued.

“I’m one of you and I can’t wait to be back faster, fitter, and stronger to help the team in the future. You’ll Never Walk Alone!” Elliott ended his statement. Harvey Elliott, who joined Liverpool in 2019, signed a new long-term contract at Anfield. For Liverpool, the 18-year-old young talent has appeared nine times and impressed when loaned out to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship last season. He has scored seven goals and added 11 assists in 41 league appearances for Blackburn.
