Matches of the EFL Cup were played on Tuesday and here is a recap. Premier League champions Manchester City advanced to the Round of 16 with a convincing 6-1 victory against third division side Wycombe Wanderers. In the 22nd minute of the football match, the guests took the lead with a goal from Brandon Hanlan.
By the end of the first half, City got serious and with the goals of Kevin De Bruyne (29), Riyad Mahrez (43) and Philip Foden (45 + 1) turned the score around. The English champion scored three more goals in the continuation of the match, and the scorers were Ferran Torres (71), Mahrez (82), and Cole Palmer (88). Liverpool also reached the round of 16 after defeating Norwich City 3-0 on the road. The scorers for the Reds were Takumi Minamino (4, 80) and Divock Origi (51). After 42 minutes Norwich leveled the score making it 1 – 1, as Christos Tzolis struck home after a fine midfield combination through the center, which left him completely unmarked.
The most convincing victory was achieved by Brentford, who outclassed quarter-league Oldham Athletic with 7-0. Four-time scorer Marcus Forss (3-11 m, 16, 44, 60) was the hero of the match and goals were also scored by Yoane Wissa (38, 87) and Raphael Diarra (43-ag).
Leeds United beat Fulham 6-5 with a better penalty shootout after the match ended goallessly. Queens Park Rangers also beat Everton 8-7 after penalties, after the match ended 2-2. QPR led 1-0 and 2-1, but the guests managed to equalize both times, but in the end, it was not enough for them. Both goals for the London team were scored by Charlie Austin (18, 34), while Lucas Digne (30) and Andros Townsend (47) scored for Everton.
The decision on the winner fell in the eighth series, Jimmy Dunne scored for the hosts, while Tom Davies was inaccurate. Jay Rodriguez (50, 60, 62, 77) also scored four goals in Burnley’s 4-1 win over Rochdale.
