Former Bournemouth manager, Eddie Howe, has been named Newcastle United’s first manager in a new era. With the appointment of Eddie Howe on a two-and-a-half-year contract Newcastle United’s hunt for a new head coach has come to an end. After watching Newcastle’s 1-1 draw football match with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, former Bournemouth manager Howe was named Bruce’s replacement at Newcastle on Monday the club confirmed the transfer news.

Since leaving Bournemouth following their relegation to the Championship in August 2020 Howe has remained unemployed. He won 56 of 190 games, in the Premier League, with his best season in 2016-17, when Bournemouth finished ninth with 46 points.

The Englishman replaces Steve Bruce, who was sacked by mutual agreement in October after failing to win a match this season. Howe said in a statement, “It is a great honor to be the head coach of a club of Newcastle United’s stature and history. It is a very proud day for me and my family. It is a great opportunity, but we have a lot of work ahead of us and I look forward to entering the training ground to start working with the players.”

Howe added, “I would like to thank the owners of the club for this opportunity and thank the fans of the club for the incredible welcome. I am very excited to start our journey together.” Howe’s first driving game will take place on 20 November, when Newcastle host recently promoted Brentford in St. James Park. Howe spent 11 years as a player at Bournemouth before taking over the managerial reins of the club.
