Belgium’s international Dries Mertens is said to extend his contract with Napoli and sign an agreement worth € 4 million a year plus bonuses.
The fans in Naples seems to have persuaded the 33-year-old Inter target by begging the attacker to stay back in Sao Paulo and to judge the news in Italian newspapers.
Multiple reports in Italy claim that Mertens has accepted to sign a new deal with Partenopei and SportMediaset says that it is a two-year deal worth € 4 million a year plus €500,000 in bonuses for the joint all-time leading goal scorer.
The Azzurri are allegedly preparing the documents to retain the Belgian to the club until June 2022 and to pay him a fee of € 2.5 million.
Yesterday President Aurelio De Laurentiis provided Mertens seven days of time to sign an agreement or move on to new pastures. He has shown his persistence to keep one of the club’s main members and avoid seeing him when he travels to Milan next season.
Inter, who had offered Mertens a transfer to San Siro, was now associated with Edinson Cavani’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
In the next transfer window former Napoli will move forward on a free transfer and the contract with Uruguay expires in June.
