In an English Premier League (EPL) match Liverpool beat Southampton 4-0 on Saturday, thanks to a double strike from Diogo Jota. The match started well for Liverpool and Diogo Jota opened his team’s account in the football match by scoring a goal from inside the box in the second minute itself. Jota did not stop there and scored another goal in the 32nd minute to take Liverpool’s lead 2-0.
Five minutes later, Thiago Alcantara scored a goal to give Liverpool a 3-0 lead. By the end of the first half, the scored board highlighted Liverpool winner with a 3-0 lead. The team also scored a goal in the second half. Virgil van Dijk took the lead in the 52nd minute to 4–0 and Liverpool secured the victory with the same match score. In other matches, Arsenal beat Newcastle United 2-0, Aston Villa beat Crystal Palace 2-1.
With this win, Liverpool moved up to second place in the EPL points table. Liverpool has 28 points from 13 matches, while Chelsea remains at the top with 29 points from 12 matches. At the same time, Southampton is in 14th place with 14 points from 13 matches.
Jota said after Liverpool beat Southampton, “In the end it is a good game for us. We adapted well to their three at the back. They changed again in the second half. We took advantage. There were spaces in the first half. A clean sheet too so a good performance.”
“It is always easier when you start well with a goal at home. We knew in the past we have been 2-0 up and not won the game. But we did today and that is important. The most important is that we win. I take advantage of playing for a good team. Fortunately for me, I can score goals and hopefully keep doing it.”
