Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Italy

Just over two months after leaving Juventus in August, Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Italy but the Manchester United star has only scored once in Bergamo so far since his football transfer to his old club. The Bianconeri fans greeted Ronaldo warmly in the summer of 2018 when he joined Juventus from Real Madrid.

The 36-year-old won two Scudetti, two Supercoppa Italiana, and the Coppa Italia during his three-year stay in Italy. And the Portugal captain revealed that the country had a special place in his heart as he returned to Italy with his new team. Manchester United, who arrived in Bergamo yesterday, will face Atalanta in the Champions League, and in a way Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Italy.

Two weeks ago, Ronaldo scored in the first leg, but he has only played at the Gewiss Stadium twice before, scoring one in Serie A each time. Ronaldo left Juventus with 101 goals in 134 competitive games, and the team is struggling to replace his goals, falling far behind leaders Napoli and Milan in the rankings.

In the Champions League last season, the veteran scored 14 goals and he now has 137 goals in 179 outings after scoring three in the Champions League with Manchester United this season. Ronaldo scored 81 goals, three of which came in four outings versus Atalanta in 98 Serie A games with Juventus.

Due to knee difficulties, he missed Juventus’ 3-1 win in Bergamo in 2019-20, and he struggled with a hip injury when they lost 1-0 at the Gewiss Stadium in 2020-21. However, he did participate in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals in 2018-19, when Juventus were defeated 3-0 away from home by Gian Piero Gasperini’s side. Ronaldo has four goals in seven games versus Atalanta, including the most recent match between the Orobici and the Red Devils two weeks ago.
