Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero retires from football at 33

Barcelona and Argentina striker Sergio Aguero announced his retirement from football at the age of 33 on Wednesday after being diagnosed with a heart condition. He was a player who scored more than 400 goals during his 18-year career. Aguero was taken to hospital on October 30 after suffering chest pain and shortness of breath during a match. The match was going on between Barcelona and Alaves which later ended in a 1–1 draw. The club then announced that their player would be out for at least three months following a heart test.

Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero had to retire at the age of 33 due to a heart problem. Sergio Aguero told a conference in Camp Nou, “This press conference is to inform that I have decided to stop playing football. It is a very difficult moment but I am at peace with the decision I have made. It’s a decision I’ve made to maintain my health. That’s what the doctors told me, it would be better to stop playing. I made the decision about 10 days ago. I’m very proud of my career, it’s It was like a dream come true. I just wanted to be a professional player and I never thought I would play in Europe.” 

The Argentine player joined Barcelona on a free football transfer during the season, but due to a muscle injury and heart issues, he appeared only five times in all competitions. After spending a decade with Premier League champions Manchester City, Aguero moved to Spain, where he scored 260 goals in 390 appearances to become the club’s record goalscorer.
