Barcelona was in talks with Dani Alves recently and has now announced that they have reached a deal to re-sign their former star as per football news. In September the 38-year-old Brazil international departed Sao Paulo and since then he has been a free agent. But now it is reported that he will make a comeback to Camp Nou for the remainder of the season.
According to Barca, next week Alves will begin practising with the first squad but will not be registered until January. In an official statement, Barca lauded him as the best right back in the club’s history.
“Although his main role has always been in defence, in the true Brazilian wing-back tradition, Alves also likes to join the attack, where he has a fine shot from outside the area, earning him the reputation as one of the finest players of all time in his position,” Barcelona’s statement read.
“He was an automatic choice under all of Pep Guardiola, Tito Vilanova, Tata Martino and Luis Enrique, and the fans loved his dedication and extroverted character. In the summer of 2016, he left for Juventus, and since then has been at Paris Saint-Germain and lastly, at São Paulo back in his home country.”
Making 391 appearances in his debut season Alves joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2008, and now has the opportunity to add to the 43 titles he has previously won in his career. Earlier on Friday, it was reported that Xavi, the new Barcelona head coach and a former teammate of Alves’, personally intervened to assist get a deal through when it appeared to be on the verge of collapse.
