Aubameyang’s hat-trick saved Arsenal first win of new season

Arsenal beat West Brom in the EFL Cup

Arsenal won their first game of the season in the EFL Cup on Wednesday after losing two matches. A hat-trick from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped Arsenal beat West Brom 6-0 in the second round of the League Cup football tournament in England on Wednesday.

Arsenal’s performance in the Premier League so far has not been good losing the first two matches by 0-2 to Brentford and Chelsea respectively. However, they looked to be a completely changed side in the League Cup round against West Brom.

At the start of the new season Aubameyang was found infected with the coronavirus hence he was out of the opening matches of the Premier League. Aubameyang’s hat-trick has boosted Arsenal’s chances of returning to the Premier League as well.

Apart from him, Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka and Aleksandra Lacazette scored for the Gunners. Aubameyang scored twice and set up a third for Nicolas Pepe in the first half, then finished his hat trick in style with goals from Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette after the break.

Aubameyang capped a fine individual performance with a glorious curling effort into the top-right corner, and Arteta introduced Lacazette to get in on the act, arrowing in a cutback from Pepe, who had earlier chipped against the crossbar.

It was not the biggest win in the League Cup as Southampton beat Newport County 8–0 in another match, while Brunelle defeated New Castle 4–3 in a penalty shootout. Watch football highlights as Arsenal beat West Brom and match results of EFL second round.
