Allegri explains heated exchange with Morata during Genoa match

Juventus recorded a win over Genoa in the Serie A football match on Sunday but the game witnessed a heated touchline exchange between coach Massimiliano Allegri and striker Alvaro Morata. Allegri opted to remove Morata from the game and put Moise Kean on in his place with Juve up 1-0 in the 73rd minute.

Allegri pushed Morata on the shoulder and shouted shut up as the striker walked past his coach. Pitchside microphones caught Allegri saying: “You gave away a foul, you have to shut up!” To this, the Spaniard reacted furiously: “What have I done?!”

Allegri explained and commented on the heated exchange with Morata when asked by DAZN about the incident after the game: “He was booked, he was continuing to argue and so I preferred to take him off. It’s disappointing, as Alvaro had played well and so did the whole team.”

Allegri said, as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb: “I took him off because he was booked and at that moment I didn’t want to risk to stay in 10 and I put Alex Sandro. But he made a good performance and I’m happy”

On replacing Morata with Moise Kean in the 73rd minute, the club stated, “That was a smart decision by Allegri because Pellegrini isn’t very experienced and would have been a target for Genoa. The Griffin fought well after going a goal down in the fixture and would likely have had more joy attacking the 22-year-old if he had returned for the second half. Sandro remains the first choice left-back at the club, but it is good to see Pellegrini develop into a reliable backup to the Brazilian.”
