Atletico Madrid 4-1 Deportivo Alaves

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid overcomes a lethargic re-emergence from the half-time interval to power past Deportivo Alaves, eventually winning in comfortable fashion thanks to two goals each from Felix and Suarez.

The Portugal international got proceedings underway with an 11th-minute header which saw the hosts take the lead into the break. Still, lackadaisical play from the Rojiblancos allowed Alaves to creep back into the match.

The visitors saw their efforts rewarded three minutes after the hour when Escalante finished Mendez’s cross.

Still, Mendilibar’s side could only keep it level for another dozen minutes.

Suarez’s confidently dispatched penalty would open the floodgates for Simeone’s team, who would add two more in the late stages through close-range finishes from both Felix and Suarez.

The win takes Atleti into third while Alaves stay last.

THIS ONE COUNTS! 1-0 ATLETICO! Fantastic one-touch football in midfield between Lemar and Griezmann creates enough space for Vrsaljko to attack down the right. The wing-back receives a pass and immediately picks his head up to centre across, finding an unmarked Felix inside the penalty area! The Portugal international does well to guide the ball home – giving the hosts the lead!

DEPORTIVO ALAVES LEVEL THE MATCH! 1-1! Laguardia hits a cross-pitch pass from deep in midfield for Joselu, who nods the pass back to the left flank for Mendez. The winger delivers an inch-perfect cross into the 18-yard box for Escalante, who powers his header past Oblak in acres of space near the penalty spot!

NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! 2-1! Suarez steps up and smashes his penalty into the goal, picking out the left side and leaving Pacheco rooted to the spot!

FELIX DOUBLES ATLETI’S LEAD! 3-1! Impressive skill from the Portugal international gets him free of Tenaglia on the left wing after a quick Kondogbia free-kick. He then drives into the penalty area and squares a pass to Cunha, who cannot finish the move from close range after a brilliant Pacheco save. Felix pops up and smashes home a finish with the ball bouncing around, leaving the sprawling goalkeeper exasperated.

4-1 ATLETICO! A well-worked goal sees Cunha slip Suarez into the penalty area on the left-hand side before a toe-poked finish from the Uruguay international leaves Pacheco flailing in vain!
