ISL: Mumbai City shared results with NorthEast United

Deshorn Brown’s strong hat-trick ensured that Mumbai City FC was left without a win after two games, as NorthEast United FC shared a 3-3 match result with the defending champions on Monday in the Hero Indian Super League. Brown scored in the 29th, 55th, and 80th minutes while Igor Angulo (33, 52) and Bipin Singh (40) scored for Mumbai City. The result means Mumbai is on top with 16 points from eight matches but were drawn after a 0-3 loss against Kerala Blasters. NorthEast United remains in ninth place with eight points from nine matches.

NorthEast United took the lead as Brown returned to the side with a goal, while the Jamaican striker took full advantage of an impressive diagonal delivery from Imran Khan to throw it over his chest and rammed home to Nawaz. Frustrated with failure just before half an hour, Mumbai went ahead and was soon rewarded.

At the break, Mumbai was ahead 2-1, with NorthEast United collecting them all the way. It was an action from the start in the second half, with Hernan Santana forcing Nawaz to defend three minutes from the half. Mumbai was added to their numbers soon after Angulo scored the second goal when Ygor Catatau unlocked a trembling NorthEast United defense to find Angulo hitting close.

Mumbai’s joy was short-lived, as the excellent Brown reclaimed his name on the scoreboard, dissociating himself from his mark and using his power to break the ball past the goalkeeper and the net. Mumbai took a breathe as Bipin’s drive was well saved by Mirshad, but much to their pain, Brown completed his hat-trick by guiding Imran’s shot into the empty net, as Rahul Bheke failed to remove the threat, and Nawaz was guilty of getting out of the line as soon as possible.
