“If I wasn’t a goalkeeper, I’d play as a center back” – Bernd Leno

In the event of an emergency, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the outfield player of the Gunners who will be the strongest in goal, says Arsenal goalie Bernd Leno.

Since 2018 Leno has been with Arsenal having made the switch from Bayer Leverkusen to the Emirates. He went on to pin down a place as No 1 of the team, over his two London seasons he made 66 appearances for the team in all competitions.

Leno also backed Aubameyang to be the most well-equipped outfield star to offer goalkeeping gloves.

Leno said during a Reddit Ask Me Anything, “I think it’s Auba.”

“I don’t really know about his quality as a goalkeeper-I don’t know who may be the best but I’ve seen Auba making some decent saves after practicing in free-kick competitions a couple of times.”

“I was really impressed and if I had a red card he might be a good choice and we’ve just made three changes.

“If I wasn’t a goalkeeper, I’d play as a center back. First of all, I don’t like running! You’re not doing it as much as anyone else. I just enjoy challenging, fighting, so I guess this role matches me because I’m a bit stronger as a defender.”
