Getafe 3-0 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid starts their season off with a convincing win after beating 0-3 Getafe.

It wasn’t easy, but they managed to score three against an organised Getafe side and keep a clean sheet despite the hosts getting some good chances.

Morata was the star of the show, scoring the first two goals.

Griezmann scored the third ten minutes after coming off the bench.

Felix came close to scoring, but he’ll have to settle for the three assists.

Starting lineup:

GETAFE (5-3-2): David Soria; Juan Iglesias, Djene Dakonam, Stefan Mitrovic, Domingos Duarte, Fabrizio Angileri; Carles Alena, Nemanja Maksimovic, Mauro Arambarri; Borja Mayoral, Enes Unal.

SUBS: Gaston Alvarez, Jaime Mata, Jaime Seoane, Portu, Angel Algobia, Diego Conde, John Patrick, Gorka Rivera, Moi Parra, Alejandro Revuelta, Alejandro Rodriguez, Vicente Bellmunt.

ATLETICO MADRID (5-3-2): Jan Oblak; Nahuel Molina, Stefan Savic, Axel Witsel, Reinildo, Saul Niguez; Marcos Llorente, Koke, Thoms Lemar; Alvaro Morata, Joao Felix.

SUBS: Ivo Grbic, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Rodrigo De Paul, Antoine Griezmann, Matheus Cunha, Angel Correa, Renan Lodi, Yannick Carrasco, Mario Hermoso, Antonio Gomis, Marco Moreno.

Goals:

GOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL! That didn’t take long! Atleti found the gaps and capitalised. They win the ball back in midfield, and Morata, whose left-footed shot, finds the bottom left corner, giving the visitors the lead.

IT’S TWOOOOO!!!! AND IT’S THE FELIX-MORATA COMBINATION AGAIN. Getafe loses the ball in such a key area, and it’s a critical mistake. Felix passes it onto Morata, who smashes the ball into the roof of the net.

GRIEZMANN GETS ON THE ACTION, AND IT’S THREE FOR THE VISITORS!!! He receives the ball just outside the box, takes a few touches to get more central, and somehow manages to shoot the ball between two defenders to score.

So, what’s next?

Atletico Madrid will take this win and hope to continue on this trajectory for the rest of the season.

They could not defend their league title win last season, with Real Madrid comfortably running away with it.

Simeone’s side will hope that they write a different story this season.

On the other hand, Getafe will not be happy with their performance in front of the goal.

They need to improve their finishing if they don’t want to be dragged into a relegation battle this year.
