Emmanuel Adebayor: Ronaldo at Madrid would have improved their chances

Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo should have had more chances to get past Manchester City, says Emmanuel Adebayor.

To overcome a first-leg deficit in their Champions League tie against Manchester City, Cristiano Ronaldo should have favored Real Madrid, according to Emmanuel Adebayor.

With the return game postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Los Blancos lost 2-1 in the first leg of the last-16 clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on the back end of February.

Nevertheless, winning 10 and drawing their final game on the way to pip Barcelona to the title which was their first since the season 2016-17, Madrid was excellent when LaLiga resumed in June.

Former City and Madrid striker Adebayor says the side of Zinedine Zidane still has the players capable of turning the tie around, but Ronaldo’s presence would have improved their chances significantly as he won the Champions League four times with the Spanish club before leaving for Juventus in 2018.

“If you had asked me that question two years ago, I would have said yes [Madrid can turn the tie around],” Adebayor told AS

“Madrid would have been favorites with Cristiano. Back then, they had Cristiano, who is a goal machine. He can make the difference at any moment and he would give the team 50 goals a season.”
