Denmark lost to Finland but Christian Eriksen saved from cardiac arrest

Denmark suffered a 0-1 loss against Finland on Saturday night’s football match but a relief for the team is that their captain Christian Eriksen, who fainted during the match and is now in hospital, is in better health and the condition is stable. Eriksen slumped in the final minutes of the first half of the Euro 2020 encounter at Parken Stadium, and the Nerazzurri player was given CPR on the pitch, according to TV footage.

There was a headline in the Danish media that read ‘Denmark lost but life won.’ Joel Pohjanpalo scored the only goal of the match with a header in the 59th minute. Football player Eriksen’s condition is stable and he has sent best wishes to his teammates. Dennis Federation wrote on Twitter that they spoke to Eriksen in the morning and he has sent his best wishes to the teammates in the tournament.

The team has to face Belgium in the next match. The federation has written that he will stay in the hospital for a few more days where he will undergo some more tests. On the other hand, the team also canceled its practice session on Sunday. The Federation has also expressed its gratitude to all the football fans and teams for their love, prayers and support towards Eriksen.

Former Denmark goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has criticized the resumption of the Finland-Denmark match, which was suspended after Eriksen fainted. He said that the decision of UEFA, the governing body of European soccer, is ridiculous.

The match was halted for more than 90 minutes after Eriksen was stunned. Later the match started. UEFA said it had offered Denmark the option to play the rest of the match the next day, but the team decided to call it off.

After the dramatic moments in Denmark vs. Finland, the world of football has embraced Inter midfielder, Christian Eriksen, with many expressions of support from players and teams. Messages of encouragement have been sent to Denmark’s playmaker from around the world.

“The No.10s never give up,” Totti wrote. “Forza Christian, we are with you.”

Cristiano Ronaldo posted a picture on Instagram: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Christian Eriksen and his family. The world of football stands together hoping for good news. I’m counting on finding you soon back on the pitch, Chris! Stay strong!”
