Cristiano Ronaldo made Pep Guardiola stay with Manchester City

Cristiano Ronaldo made Pep Guardiola stay with Manchester City. Cristiano Ronaldo was never a player that Pep Guardiola was interested in signing. If Manchester City had signed Cristiano Ronaldo in 2021, Pep Guardiola would have left the club too soon. On Tuesday, November 22, Manchester United announced that they have mutually agreed to part ways with Cristiano Ronaldo. The heated interview he had with Piers Morgan served as the impetus for the choice.

After departing Manchester United for Real Madrid 12 years prior, Ronaldo made a notable comeback for the club last year. Red Devils supporters were thrilled by his homecoming, but the transfer eventually did not work out as expected for everyone. Many people are left wondering what may have happened had the forward joined Manchester City last year after the sad conclusion of his time at Old Trafford. Before Manchester United intervened, he was famously linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United are currently in negotiations. It had first appeared that #ManCity would have first dibs on signing the forward, but it is known that United is still hopeful of completing the deal themselves. Some Ronaldo supporters think the 37-year-old would have succeeded if he had joined the Cityzens last year as opposed to Manchester United. It seems, though, that Guardiola had little interest in signing the forward in the first place.

The aforementioned source claims that the arrival of Ronaldo at Manchester City would have forced the Spaniard to leave the team. If his employers had signed the celebrity, it’s thought that the manager would have quit his job early. Senior sources at #ManCity think that Pep Guardiola would not have remained at the club until the conclusion of his then-contract in 2023 if Cristiano Ronaldo had joined the team in the summer of 2021.

On Tuesday, The Athletic reported that Guardiola had consented to pledge his future to the English champions through 2025. It is important to remember that his previous contract with the team was set to expire in 2023. Thus, if the Cityzens had signed Ronaldo, the former Barcelona manager would have left the club before the completion of the current campaign. The club’s lack of increased interest in the forward last year will now appease City supporters.

In his career thus far, Cristiano Ronaldo has faced Manchester City a total of 15 times. However, just one of those games saw Guardiola in control of the Premier League’s juggernauts. When Manchester United hosted the Cityzens in a league match last season, the Portuguese legend was named to the starting lineup. He played the entire game that day, but he was unable to stop his team’s 2-0 loss. Last season, Cristiano Ronaldo was injured and was unable to travel to the Etihad Stadium. Notably, he did not play in the Red Devils’ 6-3 loss to Guardiola’s team this season.
