Chelsea in race with Tottenham to sign Pedro Porro. According to Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea has beaten Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Spain international Pedro Porro. Since moving permanently from Manchester City to Sporting CP last summer, the right-back has made a name for himself. At the Etihad, Sporting satisfied his €8.5 million buyout clause and increased it in his new contract.
His current deal, which runs through the summer of 2025, contains a €40 million release clause. Porro, who has earned a cap for Spain at the senior level, has shown his value this season by contributing to 10 goals in 22 appearances across competitions.
He would blend seamlessly into Tottenham’s system under manager Antonio Conte given his offensive style of play. Despite being stockpiled in that position at Spurs, the 23-year-old is the object of the Italian tactician’s obsession.
However, neither Matt Doherty nor Emerson Royal is an elite player, and the summer acquisition Djed Spence has yet to start a game for them. Chelsea, on the other hand, would have taken note of Reece James’ injury struggles this season.
The England international’s two separate injuries have left the Blues defense’s right flank vulnerable. Their only other choice in that position is Cesar Azpilicueta, a 33-year-old who lacks James’ offensive threat.
If the Spaniard joins Stamford Bridge, it will be intriguing to observe how Porro and James divide their playing time. Both have become accustomed to routinely competing at the club level.
