Brighton 4-0 Manchester United

Brighton and Hove Albion have produced a sensational performance to defeat Manchester United 4-0 at the Amex Stadium.

Moises Caicedo put the Seagulls ahead in the first half before Marc Cucurella, Pascal Gross, and Leandro Trossard delivered an onslaught after the break to humiliate the Red Devils.

Ralf Rangnick’s men can no longer qualify for the Champions League due to their loss tonight and are on course for their worst Premier League finish.

Brighton moves up to ninth place on 47 points with two matches in their campaign.

Starting lineup:

BRIGHTON (3-4-3): Robert Sanchez; Joel Veltman, Lewis Dunk, Marc Cucurella; Solly March, Yves Bissouma, Moises Caicedo, Leandro Trossard; Pascal Gross, Danny Welbeck, Alexis Mac Allister.

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1): David de Gea; Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Alex Telles; Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic; Anthony Elanga, Juan Mata, Bruno Fernandes; Cristiano Ronaldo.

1-0. United fails to clear the danger from a cross into the box before Caicedo makes a fine effort to beat De Gea. A cross from the left flank from Cucurella causes problems in the penalty area before Gross lines up a strike. Lindelof charges down his effort, but Caicedo gathers 20 yards from goal and produces a precision shot that travels through a crowd before finding the bottom-left corner.

2-0!!!!!! The home side doubles their advantage as the Spaniard fires home from the inside-left channel into the roof of the net. Trossard collects across on the byline and spots Cucurella in space. The wing-back holds his composure and drills his effort past De Gea with power to send the Brighton fans into raptures.

BRIGHTON 3-0!!!!!! Gross pours on the agony for United with a super finish with his left foot, displaying a clinical edge in front of goal. Cucurella latches on a precise kick out from the back from Sanchez and then offloads to Trossard. The Belgian threads the needle for Gross, and he takes an excellent first touch away from Varane before clipping a strike away from De Gea into the bottom-right corner.

4-0 BRIGHTON!!!! United are crumbling amid brilliance from the home side in the final third. Trossard guides the ball home on the line with his chest to send the Brighton fans into dreamland. Gross releases Welbeck with a precise through ball into the inside-right channel. Welbeck chips his effort over De Gea, and although Dalot clears off the line, Trossard is there to make sure it’s over with his chest. A VAR check confirms the goal.

So, what’s next?

Brighton is next in action against Leeds next Sunday on the road, while United have two weeks to prepare for their final Premier League match of the season away to Crystal Palace.
