Chelsea endeavored to hire Philippe Coutinho when he was just 14, confirmed Brendan Rodgers.
“In the first six months, as I looked at the team, there were some things that we were lacking,” Rodgers told The Beautiful Game Podcast.
“Philippe was one I met from my days at Chelsea, and when he was 14 we wanted to bring him to Chelsea but he had already signed for Inter Milan.”
“During the summer we spoke about him and kept watching him and suddenly he was free and at 19 I thought: ‘Wow, cool, let’s bring this boy in’”
Scoring 54 goals in all competitions Coutinho played at Liverpool in five and a half seasons before his controversial move to Barcelona midway through 2017-18.
