Mauricio Pochettino got the opportunity to become the new head coach of the Premier League club, from Newcastle United, claimed Ossie Ardiles Former Argentina midfielder.
Tottenham Hotspur recently talked to Pochettino about a return to the Premier League for the 2020-21 campaign, who had sacked him last November.
Newcastle could soon become the wealthiest side on England’s top flight, with a Saudi consortium thought to be in talks with Mike Ashley over a takeover.
According to Ardiles, the Magpies offered his close friend the opportunity to become their new manager, but Steve Bruce is still in charge at St James’ Park.
“Mauricio is fine in England. He ‘s connected to Newcastle United and when he spoke directly to that club there were a lot of high-ranking people involved who made him a good offer,” Ardiles quotes The Mirror as saying.
“Mauricio had a (contractual) relationship with Tottenham, but his situation was unlocked last Tuesday and he is free to coach. He will hear offers again in this way, but Newcastle is a firm opportunity to work again. He will take his time to think and wait for a little for all this to happen.”
Pochettino also managed Southampton in the Premier League between January 2013 and May 2014, before arriving in Tottenham.
