After Barcelona defeated Elche, Xavi sent the team a message

Robert Lewandowski’s double against Elche took him to 11 goals in all competitions since his arrival from Bayern Munich.

After Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Elche with ten players on the field at Camp Nou, head coach Xavi emphasized the value of the squad players, saying that “everyone is prepared.”

With a goal from Memphis Depay and two assists from Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona won its fifth game in a row in La Liga while maintaining a perfect record for the fourth time in a row.

Before Sunday’s Madrid derby, the three points put them atop the standings. According to Xavi, Barcelona will need to have a deep roster if they are to win their first LaLiga championship since the 2018–19 season.

Xavi Hernandez said:

“We are a broad squad, in which everyone trains well. Everyone is prepared and plugged in when the team needs it, and that’s what’s important.

“It’s an atypical year with a tight schedule. We won’t rest for a few weeks, and we need everyone. It’s about making a group. Whoever plays, the team is up to the task.

“We have plenty to choose from, many options, and in the end, the squads are the ones that win the titles, not the starting 11.”

Youngsters Alejandro Balde and Pedri were two of Barcelona’s top players against LaLiga’s lowest team, and meanwhile, Xavi was full of praise for the teenage pair.

The 42-year-old Xavi Hernadez said:

“He [Pedri] is one of the best who’s come through here. He understands the game, makes a difference with the pass, and doesn’t lose the ball. We have to take care of him.

“They [Elche] did a lot of individual marking, and Balde can generate superiority inside and out. However, It is surprising that an 18-year-old boy plays at that level.

“He’s in great physical condition, and he’s going to give us a lot.”
